Karen Kavanagh Ceramics
I’ve worked with clay for many years and love its endless possibilities. I draw inspiration from the natural world, but also from my interests in geology and archaeology. I am captivated by the contrast of colours and textures that nature offers, which is then reflected in my ceramics.
From my studio in Norwich, my current body of work is mainly raku fired and features crackle glazes combined with metallic lustre, set against areas of unglazed black clay. A lockdown project inspired by seedheads, has since evolved to incorporate flower heads, exploring the different shapes and various stages of blooms, from tightly closed buds to fully open blossoms.
