I have been attracted to clay since I was a young adult, inspired by Japanese incense cases (kōgō 香合) that I made helping a ceramicist. I love working with clay as a medium as it stretches my skills and creativity and allows me to continuously learn. The moment I touch the clay, its moldability and versatility to combine different building and glazing techniques, allows me to immerse myself in a different and magical world and turn on my subconscious.
My current work centers around the classical Japanese arts of refinements, the appreciation of incense, the flower arrangement and tea. I would like my viewers to be transported somewhere else in their busy lifestyle where they can sense the tranquility and beauty of nature. As a Japanese proverb states “ Kachoufugetsu (花鳥風月)” meaning “ Experience the beauties of nature, and in doing so learn about yourself.”
