Hannah Alberts

My sculptural work involves an exploration of architectural forms, imagination, and play. I create wheel-thrown forms from stoneware clay that are assembled and joined to create imagined sites, buildings, tools, and objects. I hope my sculptures invite to you consider an imaginary context or function, be it commonplace or fantastical. I am influenced by my interest in industrial and functional architecture and science fiction.

I also enjoy making functional ceramics, creating simple contemporary forms and engaging surfaces, be it with colorful glazes or experimental terra sigillatas. The technical challenges and experimental nature of glaze formulation and testing is a joy to my science-loving brain.

Though I have been based in Cambridge since 2017, I was raised in San Antonio, TX with my two brothers by an artist father and doctor/quilter mother. I painted from a young age and studied studio art at university (though my degree was in physics). I’ve had a few careers over the years, but my love of art and science has been a throughline that keeps me engaged and curious.
