Elaine Humpleby
I am a mixed-media artist whose main practice is Ceramics. I studied Ceramics and Photography to degree level at Farnham. I have always practised as an artist and since retiring a little early from teaching Art I am delighted to be a full time Artist
My work explores Memories & Mythos, Identity & Spaces; celebrating Individuality and stories. Each piece is created with joy and a sense of exploration and discovery, they evolve in my hands; I enjoy how each piece finds its own material. I am passionate about clay; I love that I get to work with it every day. I work from home and at Designermakers21 in Diss Norfolk.
I am mainly a handbuilder , although I also throw, inspired by people, places and goddess cultures. I am fascinated by contrasts in colour and textures, by the way the light falls on surfaces.
This year you can find me and my work at the following national events

I love working with clay, it brings me joy and challenge in equal measures. I use printmaking techniques and sgraffito to create layers on my pieces Using foraged materials, found ’tools’, underglazes, oxides, slips and glazes to make marks. Each piece has a narrative: they are recordings of emotions, stories and sketches working on location and from life. Each one is unique.
I do undertake commissions. Please email me so we start to plan the bespoke piece you have in mind
Many thanks
