Antoinette Hachler

I trained as an artist but only began working with clay in 2023. In my practice, I draw inspiration from mid-century design, particularly its clean, geometric forms and distinctive colour palettes, as well as from the softer aesthetic of the Swiss utilitarian ceramics craft movement from the 1950-1970. Although they are in the same period, they present markedly different visual languages, exemplified by makers such as Steinlin, Freymond, and Landert.

My work is also directly influenced by my day job at the Henry Moore Foundation. In particular, the artist’s graphics created for a set of W. H. Auden poems depicting rugged, mysterious landscapes, have found their way into my surface decorations.

I work in earthenware under the tutelage of Margaret Gardiner.
