Change of demonstrator from previously published information.
Tony Dix is unable to join us as planned in October, but we are very pleased that Mark Dally will come to demonstrate for us.

Working from his Staffordshire studio, Mark handbuilds, casts and wheel forms his Black & White Ware in high-fired white earthenware. Mark’s tableware includes teapots, mugs, jugs, platters and bowls in a variety of sizes. He decorates by sliptrailing and brushing black and white slips onto paper resist cutouts, layered with slipped dots, drips and linework. Finally, he applies platinum and gold lustre in a third firing, to handles and knobs. Mark also likes to construct funky non-functional and humorous ceramic sculptures, using slipcast shapes from the library of moulds that he has assembled over decades. These are cast from hand modelled forms, children’s plastic toys, industrial Victoriana, DIY offcuts and domestic throwaways. Each is a one-off, decorated with slip trailing and applying stained slips on paper resist, finally adding lustres of platinum and gold.
After training in textiles, at Staffordshire University, and progressing onto the MA in ceramics, Mark set up his studio in 1989. Inspiration comes from 17th Century Staffordshire slip trailing, mid-century Stoke-on-Trent industrial ceramics such as ‘Homemaker’ by Ridgway and Carlton Ware ‘Walking Ware’, and the sci-fi anachronisms of 1940s, 50s and 60s animations and comics. Mark likes to combine traditional craft and contemporary techniques in a modern take on Staffordshire slipware and flatbacks.
After 28 years experimenting with every type of slip trailer available, in 2017, Mark perfected the Mark Dally Slip Trailer, to overcome problems like suction, line quality limitations, spluttering and RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury). Mark manufactures and markets his slip trailer in his Staffordshire studio, which now sell internationally, with a well earned global reputation for excellence. For more information about Mark, please follow this link to his website. https://www.markdallyceramics.co.uk/
Display of members work: We would like to see examples of your work from this year’s Potters Camp; the good, the bad and the ugly! Also bring examples of your work. It’s always nice to see what people are making. ‘Exchange and Mart’ – there will be tables for small items for sale or exchange
Lunch. We have re introduced pot luck lunch. Please bring a plate of food to share, either savoury, salad or cake, put your contribution on the table when you arrive. Cold food only please. Alternatively bring your own. Don’t forget to bring your own mug! We still need volunteers to take the cling film etc. off shortly before lunch and to set up the urns and cups for tea and coffee (so people can help themselves). Cakes will be served at lunchtime, to avoid crumbs later in the day! We also need volunteers to help set up from 9am and pack away at the end of the day.
Queries about lunches, please contact Trudy at email mailto:[email protected]
