I’m largely self-taught and I enjoy working with my hands. As a child, in the 60s, I used to make mud pies without thinking that one day, in my 50s, I would have my own pottery studio. This is my second studio, the first was totally destroyed by a fire at the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic. During the subsequent lock-downs, I was able to rebuild my studio and once again start throwing pots. I enjoy throwing, hand-building and decorating by exploring the infinite possibilities of textures and glazes. Using my slab roller, I enjoy hand building tall vases and creating decorative platters, dishes and fusions with clay and drift wood to produce beautiful, interesting decorative art. One of my slab-built vases is owned by Linda Bauld and has appeared on BBC Breakfast when Linda was giving Covid 19 updates. In addition to being a natural potter, I’m a keen gardener and use my knowledge of plant textures and form to inspire my ceramic creations and decoration.
