Matthew Blakely
The ceramic pieces that I make are created entirely from rocks and other geological deposits that I have collected from specific locations around the UK and thus illustrate a new way of looking at the land that forms our country. As this work has developed I have become increasingly interested in taking ceramics back to its essence: clays and rocks, simply prepared and unrefined, full of impurity and possibility, transformed in the kiln to produce qualities that would be impossible to achieve any other way.
