Pat Todd - offpat ceramics
I work in high firing clay bodies such as porcelain and stoneware. My porcelain bowls capture a spontaneous moment in the casting process using porcelain slip to produce fine and delicate forms. In selected bowls ammonite sprigs are added and coloured with oxides for emphasis. Glazes are finally applied in a way which follows through the spontaneity of each piece.
Strong influence comes from marine and coastal features to create seascapes or estuary mud flats in stoneware layers to evoke strata and wave effects. The resultant pieces are then displayed in frames in the manner of ceramic paintings.
