The Anglian Potters Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday 19th May 2019 at Mundford Village Hall. There is no charge for attending the meeting, but please book – we need numbers attending for setup. The AGM wil be held first, and hen folowed by a demonstration.
As usual, the demo at the AGM will be provided by one of our very own members. This year, our guest will be our member Matthew Blakely. Matthew’s ceramics is most fundamentally linked to the physical make up of the planet and illustrates the link between science and art. His work represents the personal development of an understanding and a bond with the landscapes of Britain, illustrating the ceramic qualities of the rocks and deposits around the country. Creating ceramic pieces that are entirely created from rocks and minerals that he has collected. Each piece is therefore be an illustration of the ceramic and geological character. Matthew’s ethos behind this is tied to the concept of provenance and making something where not only does he know where everything in it comes from but has been there, collected it and prepared it himself. There are no shortcuts: every material must be collected, crushed and ground to dust before it can be used. It is a labour of love. The materials are unreGined, impure and therefore full of unpredictability, and possibility. Thanks to these variations and impurities Matthew has been able to achieve qualities that would be impossible to get in any other way. This is what makes Matthew’s work unique.
There is no charge for the AGM, but please do book so that we have an idea of the numbers coming along. You can book using the form below, or by downloading a form from here, and sending it to Trudy.
