Jim Robison was born and educated in the USA. Jim moved to Yorkshire, England in 1972, established the Booth House Gallery and Ceramics Studio in Holmfirth 1975, specialising in ceramics with a focus on his own studio practice. Work is usually slab built and slip decorated,. Often working to commission, including large-scale sculpture and architectural ceramics, Jim enjoys an experimental approach to making, combining personal construction techniques with unusual surface textures created through multiple layers of clay and colourful glazes. All pieces are stoneware, reduction fired in a gas kiln. An enthusiast who both makes and promotes ceramics, he is an elected Fellow of the British Craft Potters Association, former Chair of the Northern Potters Association and Master of Ceremonies at the Aberystwyth International Ceramic Festivals. He has written for many Ceramics publications and is author of skill handbooks on Large Scale Ceramics, and Slab Techniques. He exhibits widely and Commissions include Public murals and sculptures (several in Yorkshire and Holmfirth Town Centre), plus Cambridge and Liverpool.)

Our events

Our events are generally intended for our members, but we are a very friendly group, and visitors are always welcome.  A few of our events are restricted to members only, such as our potter's camp in August, but if you are interested in ceramics and not sure about joining us, please do come to one of our demonstration days.  You will probably learn something new, and will certainly meet lots of enthusiastic potters.  If you would like to come along, please contact the events organisers, details are shown on our contacts page.

Please note that if you pay via Paypal you should get a receipt from them to confirm your payment, plus an email from us confirming your place.  If you haven't received either of these mails, your booking will not have been paid for.
