Susan Bruce
Resume
Susan Bruce trained at Cheltenham and Lowestoft colleges of Art and has been a potter as well as a part time Art teacher since then. She has exhibited her work widely.
Statement
Her range of functional white earthenware has a painterly approach to the decoration using simple brush strokes of coloured slips with a transparent glaze. The work is thrown and altered, the bases and spouts are handbuilt from textured clay.
She also makes one off dishes with thrown and altered rims. These are influenced by the changing scenery of the river estuary close to where she lives, marks made on the mud at low tide, the reed near the shore and the variety of bird life.
Susan is also author of the book 'The Art of Handbuilt Ceramics', and a member of the Suffolk Craft Society as well as the CPA.
