Pascale Penfold
- Originally from France, I turned to ceramics in the early
eighties and now produce handbuilt pots and sculptures which are painted with
coloured slips, burnished and smoked.
- Often, a resist slip is applied in order to control
smoking and when removed, reveals mottled areas. The result is a surrealistic
combination, fluid and tactile, of the vegetable, animal and mineral, where the
negative space is as powerful as the form itself.
- I tutor at the Tendring Adult Community College and am a
part-time lecturer at the North East Essex School of Art and Design.
