Anglian Potters

Jackie Plaister

  • Mainly my work is stoneware with an emphasis on relating the design and decoration to the form.
  • I use black and coloured slips. Often abstracted animal, bird and human forms are used as an integral part of the pot; though whilst the pot is a decorative object, it is also made with function in mind.
  • The pot is wheel-made, then cut and altered using slabbed pieces and sprigging. Black slip is often used as a base coating, with areas scratched away and filled with coloured slips.
  • Finally the pot is glazed in a matt colourless glaze and fired to 1250c. The earthenware is produced in a similar way but fired to a lower temperature, which gives a similar effect with brighter colours. The clay used is fine and white which gives a good colour response.
