External funding for Rufford Craft Centre's ceramics activities reduced in 2007 and ends early in 2008. Nottingham County Council are making changes to its programme and facilities in the light of this reduced budget. Many people feel that these changes are detrimental and that more imaginative solutions might have been found. You can read more about it from the blog and petition sites. If you look in the forum pages of the petition site you will see a letter from the Council and a response to it from the campaigners. You can also read an article from The Times.

Nic Collins and John Calver Demonstrations
October and November served up real treats in the form of demonstrations by Nic Collins and then John Calver. We all learnt so much.
Anglian Potters at Newmarket Art, Craft and Design
Over the weekend of 26,27 & 28 October Anglian Potters joined many other artists and craft workers in the huge Art, Craft and Design Show at the Millenium Stand at the Rowley Mile Race Course in Newmarket.
Anglian Potters at Haddenham Gallery
During October, selected Anglian Potters showed their work at the Haddenham Galleries near Ely. The gallery also carries some of their work on a permanent basis.
Members' events in August & September
The two recent big events for members were Potters Camp in August and the Nic Collins demonstration in September.
Anglian Potters at Emmanuel College
During August we took over the Old Library in Emmanuel College for an extremely successful show and sale of ceramics made by a broad cross-section of our members.
Edmund de Waal at Kettles Yard
Until 22 July, Kettles Yard, Cambridge is showing various installations of work by Edmund de Waal, both in the house and gallery.

May 2007 - AGM
We held our AGM in May at which Carolyn stood down as exhibitions organiser after 13 years of amazing service. Frank and Jerry also stood down as Events organisers. These key roles in the association were bravely filled by two new teams. On exhibitions we have Helen Humphreys and Cathy D'arcy, and on events we have Felicity Hoyle and Heather Graham. June Gentle volunteered for the new post of Press Officer and Daniela Stief took on the mailing list. With these new appointments and membership now above 300 we seem well set for our 25th anniversary in 2008. You can find all the committee's details on the committee page.
May 2007 - Casting Light
One of our selected members, Ray Auker, is taking part in an exhibition at the Museum of Classical Archaeology, part of the Faculty of Classics, Sidgwick Avenue, Cambridge. Alongside Painter Paul Janssens and Sculptor Alexander Stoddart, Ray is showing work inspired by the classical world. New book on Prickwillow Pottery 1975-1995
Derek and Margot Andrews used to run Prickwillow Pottery. Their new book tells how they left teaching to set up a pottery by the River Lark in Prickwillow. They describe their work in stoneware and earthenware and their methods, and tell some of the stories of life as potters, including the visitors to the pottery and those who helped them. Priced between £10 and £12, the book comprises 106 pages, including 63 colour and 20 black and white photographs of pots, people and events. February 2007 - Paul Scott Demonstration

We have two exhibitions running in November and December. One in Cambridge includes all our members, another in Ely exclusively features selected Anglian Potters.

East of England Development Agency is offering training grants to potters to help improve their business performance. More details.

August 2006 - Potters Camp
Potters camp was a great success this year with record attendance. All eight firings yielded good results with over 1000 pots fired over the long weekend. And despite the forecast, the weather was kind too. The new camp organising committee seems to have paid off with the event feeling much more organised than before. Expect next year to sell out even more quickly than this.
August 2006 - Blackthorpe Barns
Thank you to all who bought or sold pots at Blackthorpe and particularly to those who contributed to the organisation of the event. The second week was quite quiet with most sales happening in the first week - no doubt a cause for debate for future events.
May 2006 - AGM
The AGM was moderately-well attended. The committee remains unchanged, and this is a problem because we need new people to get involved. So, if you want to become more involved in Anglian Potters, make yourself known - I'm sure we can use you. No big changes were made this time but we did discuss the timing of the AGM and whether subscriptions should rise anually or only as required.

Potters Camp 2006
This year's potters camp promises to be exciting with new kilns to fire and new activities to take part in. Although the closing date for applications is not until 31 March, as of 19 March, we already have enough bookings to fill the available places.

Wali Hawes makes plea for Khurja Kilns, India
We have received an email from Wali Hawes asking for support in calling for the kilns in Khurja to be protected. Click here for more details. Wali has subsequently told us that the kilns have now been destroyed.
September - New Logo and website
After much deliberation - we have a new logo and a new-look website. We hope you find the new web design easier to use. Let us have your comments (positive and negative) via the feedback form.
August - Potters Camp
We had another fantastic potters camp this year. Full details will be in the winter news letter. Over the weekend we did three stoneware reduction firings, one earthenware wood firing, two salt firings, one soda firing and many many raku firing with both gas and wood. In addition, there was a tile workshop and other impromptu masterclasses. Fantastic!
New Name
We have a new name. At our AGM in May we decided to drop the 'East' and 'Association' parts to our name, so from now on we are simply 'Anglian Potters'. We also have a new web address: www.anglianpotters.org.uk and a new logo.
New Committee Members
Liz Chipchase has kindly agreed to take over from Rosemary Cooke as treasurer, and Sally Macpherson has bravely stepped up for the Publicity role formerly held by Penny Hayes. Thanks to both those stepping down and those replacing them.
May - Helen Martino
Helen gave us a great talk and demonstration after our AGM. As well as slab building hints and tips, she let us into the secrets of her many-layered decoration techniques.
Easter - Steve Harrison
Steve Harrison gave us a characteristically enthusiastic demonstration at Easter. His talk ranged from his school days where he learnt his tool-making skills, through art college to the present day. He told us about his approach to making - making for himself as much as for any preceived market; about some of the series of work he has made; about the cottage where he fires his work. His excellent demonstration included both throwing and press moulding techniques used to make mugs, jugs and teapots.
