David and Margaret Frith need almost no introduction, so established are their reputations.
David with his mastery of the potter's wheel makes majestic pieces decorated with his personal style of waxed motifs under heavy reduction overglazes and glaze trailing.
Margaret concentrates on individual porcelain with carved decoration or coloured glazes as well as producing a comprehensive range of domesticware and decorative stoneware.
Both are Fellows of the Craft Potters Association and David is a selected member of the Crafts Council. They both have work in many private and public collections and exhibit widely in the UK and abroad. David has lectured overseas and given workshops in Europe, Africa and New Zealand.
Review
David and Margaret gave up their 40th wedding anniversary to be with us but I couldn't help feeling that spending the day playing with clay was pretty much how they would have wished to spend the day. After a slide show that went over their early days together and more recent projects, not least a tiled floor, they settled into the seats of their wheels and the throwing commenced. With both of them working separately, but together as they do in their own workshop, there was never a dull moment. You would watch Margaret throwing on a footring then look back to see David with a huge pot where a moment before was a cone of clay. It was exciting and dizzying in equal measure. A real treat. No wonder that this was their third visit to Anglian Potters.
